I’ve been using TrackIR with no problem until this morning. When it was loaded, the screen popped up with a message box as shown to the left. After the OK button was pressed, another error showing up saying that TrackIR had stopped working due to some system issues.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver (either new or old), as well as turning off and on the computer, several times. The error persisted.
A few people reported the same issue on NaturalPoints’ support Forum here. Mike from the company replied that the issue was caused by an OpenGL conflict between Radeon latest driver (12.4 in my case) and TrackIR driver. He said he could provide replacement files and instructions to solve the issue.
Mike’s reply reminds me that this morning, for some reasons, I just happened to enable the Triple buffering, which I used to have it disabled. After re-disabling the OpenGL triple buffering function again, the TrackIR error has gone.

Update (May-08, 2012):
After reporting my case and solution to Mike of NaturalPoint, he replied to me as follows:
This can happen as a result of an incompatibility between the TrackIR 5 software and ATI drivers. We are working on finding a solution for this issue. There is, however, a work around that does work in some systems to alleviate the problem. People can email us: support@naturalpoint.com for instructions to fix the problem.
If necessary, people can also attempt to schedule a remote desktop session during normal business hours of 9am to 5pm PST (UTC -8) Monday through Friday. Additionally, in some systems, disabling triple buffering in Catalyst Control Center can fix the issue.
We’re working on it and hopefully will have a fix available soon!
Fev 2013, got the error. Still no fix in the drivers I see :(
Well, the Tripple Buffer fix works, that’s always something :)

You are right and it’s just impossible for me too to access this post. I connected with my login and the system said : “Access denied”… I think it’s the moderator who has closed the forum because we have talked of NaturalPoint in saying that they must assume.
Yesterday i have send a post to Mike and today i have access to the forum (an other one). The link : http://forum.naturalpoint.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=10323&Number=51439#Post51437

It’s alright. Mike wrote to me saying that he preferred to keep the record about who’s been affected by the issue. At least we’ve got some temporary solutions and an official fix soon.

I had this problem about a month ago. I too had to download a file that Mike emailed me. Took alot of investigating to find and fix the problem. If i had browsed this post beforehand i would have had alot easier time of it!
Thanks for this blog Tom.
