534: Garmin G5 XP-11 Conversion Update 2

One of the hassles in doing the conversion for G5 gauges to X-Plane is many FSX/P3D codes don’t have equivalents in X-Plane, and some even react and perform differently.   In addition, there are extra needs not only for updates and enhancements but also needs for changes and additions in order to better match with the current model of the Garmin G5.

For example, the Autopilot status bar on the 2016 version G5 PFD is located in the bottom center on the display (left image below).  It was the layout my G5 gauges for FSX/P3D were based on.   In the 2018 model, the Autopilot status bar has been widened and moved to the top (right image below).

News: New Training from Airline2Sim

If you are a jetliner simmer, have you ever flown into a complex airport and had no idea where to go, where to park, or even wondering if you are using the correct taxiway?  Airline2Sim is releasing a new product line called Airport2Sim next week to help you out.

The first product is called Airport2Sim Amsterdam, which is a 6-part video training program that covers every aspect of operating to and from Amsterdam Schipol airport from a real world pilot who flies in and out there every day.

I joined the company’s 777 Cadet Training Course two years ago.  It was great, and fun too.

If you are a jetliner lover, don’t miss it.

However, since two of the supporters who expressed willingness to give a bit more to fill up the gap to kick start the project as soon as possible, I sent out emails to all potential supporters for final confirmation last week.

Sadly, four among the eight in the end, including the two who said would pay more, withdrew their supports.

Not a complaint and no hard feeling.  It’s within my expectation that people are really not that keen on the G5 gauges.

The good news is: Continue reading

532: XPL B58 HSI Now Works with VOR2

Although both FSX/P3D and X-Plane 11 comes with the BeechCraft Baron 58, their cockpit instruments, operations and features are not exactly the same.  One of these differences is the ability to select different HSI sources in X-Plane, which the FSX/P3D B58, including the Carenada version, doesn’t have.

The selection feature has been added to the XPL B58 HSI Gauge, on which users can now choose from NAV1 (VOR1), NAV2 (VOR2) and GPS as needed for course deviation indications.  Following is a video showing how the HSI works when the selection source is changed.
