137: Flying Zone Switcher Preview

Updated: Dec-22,2011
Lately, I have been working on an enhanced user interface for my Flying Zones approach.   Its preliminary design is shown at the end of this post.

In addition to switching flying zones, targeted features will also include the loading of corresponding missions and FSDiscover data.  And in particular, it will eliminate the need of FTX Central when switching to Orbx’s scenery areas.

The heart of the project includes quite some customizations to my FSX setup.   When it is completed, I will think of a way to share the concept with others.

Until 2012, this probably is the last post of the year.

Wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !

  1. Good Day

This profiler seems almost “mana fron heaven” if you coolect sceneries and planes the way I do. Can you send me the base of this, I’d like to work it for my situation, and if possible give something back in the way of options.

    regards,
    John

    1. Hi John,
Thanks for the your interest but the current version of this Switcher I am using is fully customized for my own system setup. It’s not generalized for other users yet.
I am quite busy these days for work but I’ll keep it on my project list.

      1. Thanks for the quick reply, but if you can send the code, I can work on it, as every instance of the Switcher would be custom fitted to each user.

      2. Tom,

Thanks for the reply, I am going to attempt to create something like the switcher you built. I presume it is fronted by Visusl Basic, with excel and access behind.
If you like, I can send you what I build to get some thoughts from you and you are certainly welcome to use any part of the program for your own use.

        Regards,
        John

      3. Hi John,
Even though I haven’t been able to share my switcher, I am so glad to hear that someone like you are taking the hint to develop your own switcher. Yes, please send over what you’ve built and we could exchange some ideas. But please understand that I may not be able to reply to you promptly as I mentioned that these days I am super busy in dealing with my daily work. Best,
        Tom

  2. Wow. Great project!
Allow editing of a custom fsx.cfg for each area or just include your settings?
If you need beta testers, can you tell me?

    1. Thanks, Dig. All cfg and related files are independent from the program. The switcher is just an interface.
However, it does require certain pre-customizations to the cfg files, etc, according to the descriptions in Posts “Configuration Fits for All”
For the moment, I am implementating the switcher for my own system only. However, I am also thinking how it could be simplified for other users.
Do subscribe my blog. If I need beta testers, certainly will select those who are already following this blog first.
